Traveling just got more local. Walk Score’s new app and website empowers destination marketing organizations, hotels and travel agents to share their local expertise by creating neighborhood tours.
Visit Bellevue Washington, the city’s official tourism organization, created a list of recommended places within walking distance of downtown Bellevue. Seattle’s Pan Pacific Hotel also created a curated list of South Lake Union neighborhood places—restaurants, shops, parks, museums and local insider gems.
Help visitors find what’s nearby
Bellevue, Seattle’s eastside neighbor across Lake Washington, has undergone a rebirth in the last decade with high-rise condos, office towers, luxury shops, public parks, outdoor spaces and a slew of independently owned boutiques and restaurants. Hotels and a convention center accommodate travelers and the downtown area’s development and population growth have made Bellevue a very walkable city. Downtown Bellevue‘s Walk Score is 81.
Here are a couple of Visit Bellevue’s noteworthy recommendations:
- Foodie find–olive oil & balsamic tasting room
- Park at City Hall is “an oasis of lawn, water and sculptures”
“We’re always looking for ways to assist our leisure and business travelers in accessing our walkable city and its amenities,” said Stacy Graven, executive director of Visit Bellevue Washington. “The venues highlighted in our tour represent the range of dining and entertainment opportunities in Bellevue, as well as several under-the-radar destinations that many locals may not even know about. This technology is a great way to help visitors find them.”
Explore Seattle’s up-and-coming South Lake Union neighborhood
South Lake Union (Walk Score = 97, a Walker’s Paradise) is Seattle’s newest and arguably one of its hippest neighborhoods. Home to high-tech companies like Amazon and a slew of new restaurants, a few by renowned local chef Tom Douglas, this hood connects downtown to Lake Union.
The concierge from Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle shares local expertise through a South Lake Union tour on Walk Score. A few notable nuggets from their recommendation list:
- Lake Union waterfront public park as walker/biker dream next to the Center for Wooden Boats and Museum of History and Industry
- Local chocolate shop hailed for its authentic Northern Italian sweets, sandwiches, pastas, coffee, more
Seattle’s Pan Pacific Hotel General Manager Sam Johnson said, “As the premier luxury hotel in South Lake Union, a partnership with Walk Score was an ideal opportunity to showcase our neighborhood’s impressive and vibrant list of walkable amenities from specialty cuisine and restaurants to boutique shops and scenic parks.”
